What We Do

Our Story
CiteRanks was born from a simple observation in early 2025: AI search engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity were fundamentally changing how people find information online, yet no tools existed to help websites optimize for this new reality. Traditional SEO tools focused on blue-link rankings, but the real opportunity was in getting cited by AI systems.
We built the first GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) scoring engine — a rule-based system that evaluates pages against the factors that matter most to AI platforms. Starting with a handful of rules, we expanded to cover 10 AI platforms across both international and Chinese markets, incorporating platform-specific citation patterns and weighting.
Today, CiteRanks serves thousands of users across 50+ countries with 13 free AI SEO tools, a comprehensive GEO scoring system, and citation probability analysis for every major AI platform. Our mission remains the same: make AI search visibility accessible to every website, regardless of budget.
Our GEO Scoring Methodology
Our GEO Rule Engine evaluates pages against 10 weighted scoring dimensions, each with platform-specific weight multipliers. For example, FAQ content carries a 1.4x weight multiplier for ChatGPT but only 1.1x for Perplexity, while external citations carry 1.5x for Perplexity but 1.1x for ChatGPT.
Scores use sigmoid normalization to spread results across the 0-100 range, making it easy to identify specific areas for improvement. Each rule produces an individual pass/fail assessment with actionable recommendations, so you always know exactly what to fix.
This approach means your GEO score reflects real citation probability — not abstract SEO metrics. The methodology is grounded in the Princeton-led GEO research paper and validated against real AI citation patterns across 10 major platforms.
